Nursery on Notch Hill is a program of Zion Episcopal Church. Our mission is to serve our community by promoting social and moral development in each child while providing quality early childhood education in a structured, warm, and caring environment. Nursery on Notch Hill fosters such values as compassion and respect for oneself and others. We believe this sets the foundation for future growth and learning. By continuing to run this school as a non-profit outreach, it is our hope that more children will be able to enjoy a quality, preschool experience.
We are a state licensed, non-profit preschool open to any child regardless of race, religion, or nationality. Established in 1971, by Zion Episcopal Church, Nursery on Notch Hill was originally set up as a parent cooperative preschool. We have changed with the times, and now do not require parent's to serve inthe classroom. We do still welcome parent involvement.
Although Nursery on Notch Hill is a ministry of Zion Episcopal Church, the school is non-sectarian. The Nursery School honors and celebrates religious and secular holidays. The Vicar of Zion joins the childen each month to tell the story of a holiday or tradition. Families seeking spiritual nurturing are invited to worship with us.
Nursery on Notch Hill provides a planned program offering young children opportunities for social and emotional growth in preparation for kindergarten. All preschool classes (ages 3-5 years old) are limited to 12 children, maintaining an extremely favorable 1:6 adult-child ratio. Oue 2 year old classes has a 1:4 adult-child ratio. Children learn through active play, exploring their environment and interaction with others. Our teachers are guides to learning who create an environment that encourages exploration, creativity and problem solving.
When provided with a safe environment, and unconditional acceptance and respect learning comes naturally! We provide many developmentally appropriate materials with which children can play and experiment.
