About Healing Prayer at Zion
God's healing grace is a mystery. We believe the Lord wants us to be whole and well in this life. What does that mean? The primary healing we can receive is the assurance that God is with us to love and protect us whatever our outer circumstances may be, and that this life is only the beginning of that divine relationship. Beyond this we believe that Jesus calls us to pray for each other and that those prayers are honored. Often our prayers are answered gently by slow but steady recoveries, which can ultimately go far beyond original hopes or expectations. Treatments may have fewer side effects, or operations may go particularly smoothly. Sometimes prayers are answered more dramatically. Almost always healing includes finding peace in our situations.
Each of us is called to pray for our own needs and those of others - our family, the community and the larger world. While there may be certain individuals with particular “gifts” for healing, we believe God wants every one of us to pray for each other in our own communities. Healing may not be rapid. We are not perfect vessels as Jesus is. All we can do is obey the call to pray. Prayer takes time - sometimes a lot of time. We have come to learn that each prayer brings blessings. Please come back often for additional prayer.
Healing can be physical, spiritual and emotional. All levels can profoundly affect your life. Come and pray for yourself or a friend. We all need it every day. A very important aspect of prayer is to recognize the goodness of God in our lives. There is no such thing as too much thanksgiving. “Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.” Come and give thanks for God's goodness and for our life together at Zion.

The Ministry of Healing -
Extract from the Lambeth Conference Report 1988
86. We urge all Bishops to encourage, to oversee and to be themselves involved in the ministry of healing in their dioceses. The following are some ways of being obedient to our Lord’s commission:
- to declare that the ministry of healing should be a regular part of the ministry in every congregation;
- to encourage intercessory prayer by members of every congregation, remembering our Lord’s promise about agreeing together in prayer (Matt. 18:19);
- to foster the use of the laying-on-of-hands with prayer by the clergy and members of the congregation;
- to bless and provide oil for the anointing of the sick and to encourage priests to make this anointing a regular part of their ministry;
- to develop counseling ministries, concerned with inner healing and the healing of relationships, and to provide for the ministry of absolution and the assurance of forgiveness;
- to provide and oversee ministries of deliverance from demonic oppression where this is needed, and, where appropriate, with medical consultation;
- to establish in each Province and/or diocese centers for the ministry of healing, both for ministry to the sick and for the teaching and support of those engaged in this ministry at the local level;
- to work in partnership with doctors, nurses and all involved in the care of the sick, and to encourage medical research and the study of related ethical issues;
- to ask for a fair distribution of resources and personnel so that all nations and all sections of the community may receive adequate health care;
- to embrace the sick and impaired, for example, drug addicts and sufferers from AIDS, as part of the fellowship of the whole Church;
- to support the Church’s medical mission work throughout the world as a vital arm of its ministry and outreach,
- to work for the establishment of hospices for the terminally ill and to provide appropriate ministry for the dying and their families; this will need to include counseling regarding the continuance or otherwise of life-support systems.
